Sapphire is one of the most popular gemstones, and is used extensively in Jewelry. Fine colored Sapphire with a deep blue color and excellent transparency can reach several thousand dollars a carat.
Sapphires come in a wide range of colours such as violet, blue, pink, green, orange and yellow. A word sapphire means blue in Greek.
Some Sapphires are colourless and have been used as imitation Diamonds.
It is one of the four precious gemstones, the other three are diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.
Sapphires are also the Wedding anniversary gemstone and are given as gifts for the 45th year of marriage.
The Sapphire is the birthstone of the month of September which relates to the Zodiac Sign of Virgo.
